Barcelona

Created 14th March 2004, last updated 14th March 2004.

Barcelona is one of Spain's largest cities with a population of around 1.5 million. It's enviably located on the Meditteranean coast, with numerous nearby beaches and a warm climate, with winter only reaching typical lows of around six of seven degrees celsius. Famous for the brilliant yet eccentric artist Antoni Gaudi, the city has a fine reputation for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and relaxed lifestyle and was put on the world map when it hosted the 1992 Olympic games. The language in Barcelona is mainly Catalan and Spanish, with Catalan usually taking precedence. Two of the most popular tourist attractions are the unfinished Sagrada Familia and Park Guell, a showcase of Gaudi's work.
